Re: NIMBYism, it always frustrates when you hear the B.S. excuses for not creating more offshore wind farms from residents as well (NOMOV?? Not on my ocean view??). If we can reframe the aesthetic (similar to what Tesla did to EVs) of offshore/onshore wind, we can also start to knock out more energy issues as well! The chief plaintiffs on wind farm obstruction always seems to come from groups who literally miss the forest for the trees (Classic case in point: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-26258271) and probably drive Teslas anyways as part of their "commitment to the environment"
That article is pretty depressing. I find wind farms aesthetically nice, but I assume this is an outlier view. I also find nuclear power plants and such things interesting to look at it. I think there's a sort of "machine aesthetic" that a certain kind of geek enjoys.
Eli Dorado convinced me that geothermal energy is a winning path. One benefit is that the plants could be a nondescript building or mostly underground. Harder to NIMBY or NOMOV.
"Color-of-your-curtains-controlling HOAs" 😂😂
Great piece!
